Pirin Adventures - all inclusive mountaineering, trekking and walking Holidays in the Pirin Mountains of BulgariaOld and New. Bulgaria is a country in Southeast Europe and is bordered by five other countries (Romania, Serbia, Macedonia, Greece and Turkey) as well as having a beautiful coastline on its eastern side know as the Black Sea. It's quite a big country, roughly about 111,000 sq km, with several mountain areas, with the highest peak been the Musala in the Rila Mountains followed closely by the Vihren in the Pirin Mountains, which is well know for its rugged terrain and deep valleys. The Rhodopi Mountains are east of the Pirin range and are gentler in their appearance, with many cave systems. The Balkan Mountain chain runs west to east and is situated North of the Rose Valley area. Sofia, the Capital, has a population in excess of 1.2 million and is about two and half hours drive from our Base Camp in Bansko.
