Food and Accomodation

Pirin Adventures - all inclusive mountaineering, trekking and walking Holidays in the Pirin Mountains of BulgariaBase Camp Accommodation is situated on two different sides of the Pirin Mountains one is in Bansko and the other Pirin Village. We provide home cooked meals and ensure that living accommodation is clean and comfortable, with areas for relaxation.

Both our sites have communal inside and outside seated areas or gardens and relaxation areas (Sauna or hot tub depending on venues). We have a fridge full of cold drinks, with a free beer or glass of wine or rakia with dinner, and an honesty box if you decide to have another one.

Sleeping accommodation is “single sex” rooms, bunk bed style sleeping upto 4 people per room, however if private rooms are required these can be booked at an extra charge but may not be on site. All bedding, breakfast, lunch (including pack ups), afternoon cakes/snacks and dinner are included in the holiday price.

Luggage will be transported from site to site for you, as long as you have packed it ready to be transported and left it in the designated area. We want you well fed and ready for the days challenges without the stress of everyday living.

Meal times are a communal affair at Base Camp which generally means sitting round a traditional table inside or outside…… which ever takes our fancy that day. There is also the option to have a night out at a restaurant in Bansko for some traditional fare, or a beer in the local café in Pirin. We cater for Vegetarians AND meat eaters alike, OK so there will be something's you don’t like, make sure you tell us on the booking form, please let us know about allergies and we will do our best to accommodate you, alternatively you can have access to the kitchen and be your own head chef.

Whilst at Base Camp, breakfast normally is a buffet of cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, ham and cheeses with boiled eggs and local bread; lunch is a pack up; dinner is a three course meal with a simple starter, a hot main course or salad, and dessert, for more detailed information please see the sample menu on the food tab.
Pirin Adventures - all inclusive mountaineering, trekking and walking Holidays in the Pirin Mountains of BulgariaBansko is a beautiful small town with many traditional buildings where the local people still drive horse and carts through the village and herd sheep back in the evening after grazing them out on the pasture lands around Bansko. Yet Bansko has all the modern assets of a thriving town, with many banks, restaurants, cafes and bars and an excellent shopping centre for clothing and shoes. In winter Bansko is a major ski centre with a modern gondola system and in summer it’s a wonderful and lively centre for walking, mountain biking and climbing; many shops are renting decent bikes and jeeps for off roading. You can even book into the horse riding centre in Razlog close to Bansko, lots to do on your day off.

The Bansko Apartments capture this mix of modern and tradition found in Bansko and are only 5 mins walk from the centre. Its fitted with a fully equipped communal kitchen area, where coffee and tea making facilities can be found. We have 2 main bedrooms (4 bunk style beds in each room), and use of two bathrooms, balcony and drying room. However, if private rooms are required these can be booked at an extra charge. Outside there is a secluded communal garden, which is a peaceful place and leads to the shared barbecue area (tradition cooking style grill and dining area known as a Mehana). So plenty of space to sit outside.

We also have a well equipped gym, steam room and sauna area downstairs, and it’s ideal when you arrive back from your long trail days and want to relax before dinner is served. For dining, we sit round a communal table in the main apartment or outside which ever takes our fancy that night. There is also the option to have a night out at a restaurant in Bansko for some traditional fare. Across the street we have a local shop selling snacks, coffee and beer - run by a lovely local family. It is a meeting point for many locals on their way to work and you're always welcome to get a coffee and sit and try and chat in Bulgarian with the locals.
Pirin Adventures - all inclusive mountaineering, trekking and walking Holidays in the Pirin Mountains of BulgariaPirin Village is like stepping back in time, this really is a unique place where many of the local people don’t have a car, but opt for the donkey or horse, invariably owning goats or sheep. They are generally dressed in traditional working clothes and normally have a working garden where they grow all their own food. Life is hard here but its also one of my favorite places to be. The warmth of the village people makes us feel at home here and we hope after your visit you feel the same.

Our Mountain House has a traditional charm about it, built in an orginal style with a red tiled roof and whitewashed walls and a fenced garden with our own hot tub. The neighbours are lovely and often give us gifts of cheese and rakia, but watch out its strong stuff. Accommodation here is made up of 2 bedrooms, 1 for the gents and 1 for the ladies sleeping up to 4 people…… and lights out at 10….. Only joking about the lights!

There is a communal bathroom equipped with separate showers and toilets and wash basins. Dinner is round a large dinning table where we also have comfortable seating and a lovely view down the valley and over the village.

Outside is a storage area and drying room, and a seating/smoking area leading onto a private garden with our own vine leaves and hot tub for relaxing. In the village we had a shop, pub and café……… and the many entertaining things that goes on with village life!

We always make sure that we offer a meat dish and a vegetarian dish. Our weeks menu will be on the board when you arrive, and when you fill in the booking form be sure to complete you allergy sections, and if you are a vegetarian tick the box to let us know in advance, but we often make a few more veggie meals as its inevitable the meat eaters want to try the veggie meals too. If you have a very special diet we offer you’re the opportunity to use the communal kitchens and prepare your own food, especially those with nut allergies and gluten free diets.

Our chefs (normally myself or one of the other members of staff) provide simple and delicious food, often with the option of homemade drinks like lemonade and ginger beer and we make sure there is plenty of it as you will be ravenous after your trips out on the mountains.
